"George Presley" Subject:
Project II offering. An all purpose portable marker generator using a 48 MHz ref. Useful from 2m and all the way up to 10 GHz. Investing in a hi-end TCXO would be required and a well shielded box. Chuck is already thing about a version of this one. George K4RSV
Hey! Now you are talking George!! Quite frankly, DEMI has a project like this on the back burner but we will never be able to finish it with the back log we have. I'm sure chuck's ideas on this matter are top notch also. There is pleanty of 48 Mhz +/- 100 ppm stuff out there for a few bucks. BUT--- the good stuff is rare to find surplus and pricey if bought new. What could be done by the group is a multiplier/filter board if you desire a "Pure" signal at a known level per band. Then the user could then install the Reference oscilator of choice depending on how much performance and or how much he wanted to spend in $$$$ BUT--- If there is only a few of us that want the best, maybe we can get some quotes on say 10-12 48 Mhz units with some good specs. The reasoning is the same as why you brought this up George! If we do this its to get everyone on the sme frequency. If some of us have Good reference sources and some of us have "Not so Good" then it defeats the purpose of the prodject. If after we did the project with the good stuff,, we could get together at a meeting and compare sources for frequency calibration with each other. It beats luging 4-5 bands of gear around to calibrate. Remember, some of us are not so portable with there 2304 and up stations!
Anybody else have some ideas about this?
Steve
